Instead of giving contracts to strangers, we decided we could just as well give contracts to our own employees. We would encourage them to leave... and start their own satellite enterprises.
We use minimal hierarchies, ad hoc structures, self-control, and the discipline of our own community marketplace of jobs and responsibilities to achieve high quality, on-time performance.
What is important is our openmindedness, our trust in our employees and distrust of dogma. We are neither socialist nor purely capitalist, but we take the best of these failed systems and others to reorganize work.
Get to know your people. What they do well, what they enjoy doing, what their weaknesses and strengths are, and what they want and need to get from their job.
